How to Use the GASTEC Sampling Pump
Click here to see some Free experiments from Gastec.
GASTEC provides a simple, fast and accurate method for measuring the concentration of a variety of gases in air. By inserting one of the detector tubes into the sampling pump and drawing air through a measurement can be made in 60 seconds. The disposable sampling tubes are simply thrown away after each experiment, reducing clear-up time dramatically.
The Gastec Kit includes – Gas Sampling Pump, tip holder, rubber safety caps, seal lubricant, carrying case, comprehensive instruction manual (sample tubes sold separately).

How to use GASTEC
1.
Take a new Gas Detector Tube, and score the glass by twisting it against the cutting edge of the tip breaker. Break off the tips on both ends by carefully bending back the tube as shown in the picture.
2.
Slip the sleeve-like rubber cover over the end of the detector tube where the arrow is located. Use red covers for narrow tubes such as carbon dioxide and blue covers for wider tubes such as oxygen.
3.
Insert the selected detector tube into the rubber inlet of the pump with the arrow on the detector tube pointing towards the pump.
4.
With the handle fully pushed in, align both of the guide marks (red line + triangle) on the pump and the handle.
5.
Pull the pump handle towards you in one swift thrust. Listen for the “click.” Carefully let go of the handle and keep the tube in the sampling area for one minute.
6.
After, one minute, turn the handle 90 degrees and carefully let go. It should remain in place without going back.
7.
Mark on the tube with a permanent pen or glass pencil where the colour change ends. This is your measurement!
