3cm Microwave System

The 3cm Microwave System is a simple and elegant way of demonstrating the properties of waves without any complicated set-up.
All the units are completely self-contained and so require no further apparatus.

• The transmitter has its own internal modulator with variable frequency.
• The receiver has its own internal amplifier, loudspeaker and gain control.
• The probe receiver has its own internal amplifier, gain and sensitivity controls and loudspeaker.

This complete system provides a rugged set of units to enable students to investigate the wave properties of 10GHz (3cm) microwaves.

Microwave Transmitter

This uses a Schottky diode oscillator module feeding a tuned waveguide and horn to give a directional microwave beam. The beam is modulated with a variable frequency audio signal which can be adjusted by the control on the top panel. Power is from a mains plug-top unit (supplied).

Microwave Receiver

This uses a plate antenna which gives high sensitivity over a broad area. Output is to an internal loudspeaker and power is derived from a mains plug-top unit (supplied). A control allows the user to adjust the sensitivity to cater for different circumstances and distances.

Microwave Probe Detector

This is a localised, precision receiver which finds particular application in identifying areas of peak and low amplitude in interference, reflection and refraction experiments. There are two controls, one for sensitivity and the other for volume of output to the internal loudspeaker.

Microwave Polariser

A Pair of polarising grills for demonstrating the effects of polarisation with 3cm microwaves. Each polariser is constructed from 3mm dia. steel rods at 1cm spacing on an acrylic frame with support handle. Overall size (excl. handle) 150 x 130 x 15mm each.
