Friction Investigation

A sturdy base fitted with a low friction pulley provides the basis for investigations into dynamic friction between sliding surfaces. The carriage can support any applied load and the frictional force to move the carriage can be measured by applying weights to a string passing over the pulley in the usual way. Different types of surface can be examined by slotting the carriage onto pads of rubber, plastic and different wood surfaces (all supplied in the kit). A particular feature allows the “force independent of surface area” concept to be explored using a special set of three pads.
