Singing Pipe

This simple device can change thermal energy into sound waves directly. Constructed from 28mm dia copper tube with a constriction to support a metal gauze, the pipe is held over a Bunsen flame for a few seconds to heat the gauze. When the flame is removed the pipe resonates with the convected air and emits a low "ships foghorn" note. 450mm long with full instructions.
