A UV LED provides the UV source in this test rig.

Because of its construction there is no radiation hazard and students can test the UV absorbing properties of various materials such as lenses from sunglasses, various coloured glasses, reflective film etc as well as the effectiveness of sun-screen creams.

UV detection is by means of the UV beads and intensity is estimated from the times taken for the colour changes to occur so approximate values only are obtained.

The unit requires a normal 12V d.c. power supply.
