Balsa wood has a long tradition of being used to make model aeroplanes. Being lightweight, stiff and easy to work it is also an ideal material for making experimental wind turbine blades. Balsa wood is also been used in real wind turbine blades as a skeleton coated with fibreglass. These sheets are 12″ long, 3″ wide, and ¼” thick and come in packs of 10 or 100.
