The purpose of this experiment is to study the magnetic field along the axis of a current carrying circular conductor and a coil according to Biot-Savart’s law. You will investigate:
- Biot Savart’s Law
- Magnetic Field Constant ( μ0 )
- How the magnetic field at points along the axis of a solenoid varies with the current flowing through the coil
A conducting wire carrying a current produces a magnetic field B whose magnitude and direction at any point in space depend on the length and shape of the wire, the current flowing through the wire and the distance of the field point where the magnetic field is measured. Consider a circular conductor with radius r that carries a current I. The law of Biot Savart gives the magnetic field vector dB produced by an element dl of the conductor carrying current I.
